Are you a Summer-Autumn (Soft Summer)?

7-the-Soft-Summer-seasonal-palette

Update from September 2018: I uploaded a new photo with face examples for a better understanding of this seasonal color palette. Although I can’t be certain about the celebrities’ exact seasonal color palettes I would like to show some examples to visualize each color palettes.
As well as, I added a new color palette with the names of the shades 🙂

You are a Summer (cool traits) woman who flows into Autumn (warm traits). It means you have delicate and neutral colors on your face. Because of the effects of the warm and cool seasons you are one of the most misdiagnosed seasons, especially if you have darker hair color and lighter eyes.

Depending on the color you are wearing you can see yourself sometimes warmer or cooler. You can feel you look ‘mousy’ in most colors because you should wear only soft and muted shades to look fabulous and elegant.

According to my new seasonal color system, Your Unique Palette, I divided the Soft seasons to a lighter and a deeper one.

The Fair Soft Summer

They are lighter in colors with light to medium ash blonde or light ash brown hair, lighter grayish blue or green eyes and paler skin tone. They can be seen as Springs, but the warm colors make them fade.

And the Shaded Soft Summer

They have a deeper overall complexion like medium to dark ash blonde or light to medium ash brown hair, either lighter eyes or brownish hazel eyes and usually medium skin tone. This kind of Soft Summer ladies are often misdiagnosed with Winters, but those bright colors totally overpower them.
According to my experience, this season is really common besides the Winter seasonal palettes.

Your hair: medium or dark ash blonde, light or medium ash brown (‘mousy’)

Your skin: natural beige, ivory or darker with ashy undertones, may have freckles

Your eyes: gray-blue or green, hazel

Your colors: soft and muted

Your basic neutral colors: soft white, navy, grays

Avoid: clear and bright colors, browns and oranges

Your makeup: use your palette colors to your eyes, lips, and nails, foundation, and blusher should be rosy and cool undertones, don’t use bronze blusher

Your jewelry: silver, rose gold, white gold

Your style: classic and natural

Your sister color palette: Soft Autumn (Autumn-Summer)

Note: You can wear the pastel colors of the palette of the Soft Autumn season.

More famous Soft Summers: Ashlee Simpson, Melora Hardin, Leona Lewis, Patricia Arquette, Catherine Middleton, Angelina Jolie

  1. I can’t decide where I fall.
I am very pale, I don’t tan or burn easily. I have golden freckles. I rarely get sun but when I do, I turn a more golden tone. But since I’m so pale usually, I naturally look more pink at times.
    My veins are blue/purple
I think my skin tone is more neutral.
My hair looks like a dark ash blonde maybe light ash brown. but I also have natural slight gold highlights. My eyebrows are a really dark brown.
My eyes have a clear dark blue ring on the outside, then an light blue ring and then a yellow to green ring in the center. The colors seem very clear and not muted at all to me.
My lips are naturally a dusty rose color so I stick with mauve and rose tones for blush and lipstick.
I hate wearing pink or peach clothing , it makes me look like uncooked chicken and brings out the pink in my skin..
I only wear gold jewelry and am generally more attracted to warm colors.
But I’m don’t know if they actually look better on me.
I’ve taken so many different tests. I’m stuck between soft summer and soft autumn.
But my eye color seems to fit only bright spring.
    Please help lol

  2. Hi Agnes, please help me. I was told I was a warm soft spring but find the colours too bland on me. I have worked out I am a neutral but cannot figure out if I am wam or cool. My colour pallet says I am light, half way between warm and cool and closer to soft than clear. I asked for a celebrity and the lady said Jennifer Aniston, but she is a light summer not spring.

My eyes are blue with a light grey rim, I am fair and burn easily, I look better in gold jewellery but can have some silver but not on my wrist. My veins are greenish/blue. When I put white on I look pink not yellow. This is the third time I have had my colours done and I am still confused.

  3. Thank you for a very informative article. I have been really struggling to find my season but I begin to think I might be soft summer although I am a tad brighter than SS. Many colours are too muted for me especially lipsticks SS look very dull. But bright seasons over power me. TS is too cool and LSu is too light. SA too muddy. The look of some of these celebrities resembles my colouring. My eyes are blue – grey but bright with a dark navy ring. My hair is a soft brown , very neutral , not ashy. My skin is neutral possibly pale olive or yellow overtone. What confuses me is that you don’t recommend ANY brown tones. From my experience brown can be just as good or bad as grey – it depends which one it is because of the variety. The problem I have is that I’m neither too soft nor too bright , neither too cool nor too warm and neither too light nor too dark. What is promising is the fact that SS don’t look good in blonde hair , this is something I noticed in myself.. . But I still don’t know whether I fit here 🤔

  4. Good Evening…Thank you for your wonderful Post All my life I have been a natural blonde and even as a child my hair was a very light blonde. Now that I am getting older, it is still blonde, but at an 8-9 level of natural blonde with varying shades of the 8 and 9 mixed throughout it. I have fair skin, blue eyes, blonde eyebrows, and long blonde eyelashes… When I wear colors that are darker than my contrast level or too muted, my eyes tend to look grey-blue. When I other colors, my eyes tend to look brighter. I have been labeled as both Light Summer and True Summer, because I have been told I am too fair and light to be a Soft Summer. This article interest me because I see that there is a category of Fair Soft Summer. How can I now decipher if I might fit into this category. Thanks in advance for your reply.

  5. Help please! Great site but I too am struggling to work out my type! I’m 48, not yet grey, but my dark blonde-mid brown hair (mixed shades, all natural) is looking a bit dull these days. I have fair skin with some thread veins, but I do become golden-yellowy brown in summer. My eyes are mid blueish grey. My veins are blue and green! What am I??? Many thanks!

    1. Hello Louise,
Thank you for reading my blog. Based on your description, you can be either a Soft Summer or a Soft Autumn. Try these shades next to your face:
Orange vs. mauve, beige vs. ash gray, coral vs. orchid pink, or olive green vs. pine green. If the first shades (orange, beige, coral, olive green), flatter your look, you are probably a Soft Autumn, if the latter colors, you might be a Soft Summer.
You can also try these lipstick shades: soft coral or nude that is good on Soft Autumn, or mauve or raspberry that is nice on Soft Summers.

  6. Hi! I am always curious about my coloring as well.. I am very fair in the winter/almost see through. I do have freckles that go out of control in the summer. I tan quite nicely as well. I believe my skintone is very fair olive tone. I have muted green eyes with a dark carmelish center. I was born with blond hair and blue eyes which changed to dark brown hair with eyes I mentioned above 🙂 I am torn as I seem to have both cool and warm tones.. I look best in bronze jewelry.. and rich aubergine is my favourite clothing color?? Or rusty wine looks great on me. As do dark grey blues/navy blues/emerald green and teal makes my eyes pop. Any ideas ? Also I find muted dusty olive green really ashes me out as do all pastels:/ would love any feed back 🙂 I feel I am cool in the winter and warm in the summer..

    1. Hello Amber,
Thank you for your comment. Based on your description, you are instead one of the Autumn seasons. I would suggest checking my blog post about the Soft Autumn or the Deep Autumn seasonal palettes. The Soft Autumn color palette is the ‘sister’ season of the Soft Summer. The colors on the palette are muted, warm, and medium deep.
The shades on the Deep Autumn palette are warm, dark, rich, and moderately bright. Both seasons are basically warm but influenced by cool seasons. The Soft Autumns are Autumns that flow to the Summer season while the Deep Autumns flow toward the Winter season.

  7. I was anylized as autum in the 90s. Now im confused! I have blue (maybe bue- gray eyes) dark hair, but. I ike red/ auburn , light skin freckles ,pink undertone. I thouht i was warm undertone. People have asked me what country i was born all my life. Can you help?
    Thankyou
    Stola R Kissel

    1. I hv dark hair, brown, I had reddish when I was younger. I look good in blues, pine green looks awesome on me but also army green looks fairly well too. I hv Grey blue eyes, tiny hint of light green in the center. I am thinking of coloring my hair, I am toen between blonde or red, since I had reddish looking hair when I was a child…. I’m don’t know if I’m am a soft summer or some sort of autumn. Can anyone help me?

  8. Hey Agnes, I had color analysis done a few months ago with a Pantone analyst. The analyst said that I am a Sunlight, which is in the middle of the other two palettes of Sunrise (cool) and Sunset (warm). I have med/dark brown hair that is 40% gray, hazel green eyes, and a light-med skin tone that seems to have some warmth and coolness. Red, orange, burgundy, brown, and dark berry lipstick colors are not good on me, (think Elvira). It is difficult for me to find the right lipstick, blush and eye shadow/liner colors. Can you help me? Would it be ok to send you a picture? Best to you, Hope

  9. Help! I love your site and feel like it has awesome information but I am having some trouble figuring out my season. I have taken the quiz and got both Soft Summer and Soft Autumn. I have might skin that at tumes looks cool and others warm. My eyes are dark blue and at times look grey. My natural hair is dark ash blonde/brown but when I dye it (even when choosing a cool or a shy shade) it has a red cast to it.

  10. Hi, wonderful blog it’s helping me a lot! Still, I can’t understand if I’m a soft summer…my hair is ash blonde/dark, green eyes with an hazel ring, my veins look green but also blue. I don’t understand which skin tone I am…pink lipsticks and blushes don’t suit me. I think I’m a soft summer but not quite sure about it

    1. Neutral undertone (blueish-greenish veins under wrist) can either be catagorized as cool or warm, but you may still fall into soft summer as you mentioned about your hair and eye color. You can try to experience other colors outside your color palette when you have your neutral undertone.

I am a deep winter with neutral undertone and I know the confusion about if I have a cool or warm undertone. but I just used my hair and eye color to catagorize myself.

I’m not professional, so correct me if I’m wrong. I share my experience about the same thing.

      Hope it helps! 🙂

    2. I have very similar coloring as yours based on your description, and this color analysis says I’m a soft summer too. However, I avoid pink lipsticks and blushes because they look horrible on me. I dont agree with the advisement of “pinks” or that there is a “pink undertone” as that does not make any sense.. if soft summer is summer leading into autumn, that would make it a neutral. Pink tones generally are best with standard cool undertones, not so much for neutrals. My arms have a mix of purple and green veins, I have dark ash blonde natural hair, blue-green eyes with hazel ring around pupil, and I was recently matched to several foundations that are “fair olive” (olive is a neutral with greenish undertone, not a shade/tone or depth of color). I can wear some cool colors and some warm colors but am best with neutral and muted shades. No bright colors and definitely no oranges or orange-reds. The blush I was matched to by a makeup artist is a soft light peachy-pink blush, NOT rosy pink. I’ve taken this 30 something color analysis several times, even changing answers if I felt I was in between 2 choices, and I always get Soft Summer. I believe soft summer is a neutral undertone, not cool undertone, so I’m not surprised that pink lipstick and blush does not work for you. My advice is to go between summer and autumn palettes and try out colors to find what works best for you.

  11. Hi,

I need help deciding what season I fall into- I’ve been told I’m a summer in the past, but I’m not so sure. I have dark ash blonde hair to light ash brown. A relatively neutral light ivory skin tone with a slight lean toward cool. However, I have medium brown eyes (root beer) with a very fine gray outer ring. I wear brown well, but navy too. I’m so confused! Thoughts??

    1. This is me as well (blonde hair, medium brown eyes) and I’ve been never more confused! I have read a few blogs that Soft Summers are the most neutral of skin tones (and brown eyes, blonde hair can find it) and I can wear both silver and gold equally. I’ve always felt like unless it’s bright or deep it was too muted on me but I’m trying to expand my range based on this finding. Hope this helps in your journey!

  12. Hi, i have dark blonde hair with red and gold in it, olive green eyes with light hazel near the pupils, peach skin which flushes easy. Am i summer or autumn? Very confused i seem to be a few seasons in one?

    1. You may be either spring or autunm since you have warm hair, eye and skin tone.

  13. Hi Agnes, I am a soft summer with tiny amber spots close to the center of my blue-grey eyes with a deep teal outer ring. My skin is light in winter but I tan very easily in summer and am mildly golden toned with some freckles. I have been trying out browns as a base color this winter (since Soft summer flows into soft autumn) and thought browns were more warming to my tone than greys, but I have now noticed a lot of color palettes for soft summer do not include browns. Would you mind explaining why that is? Is brown not a good choice? Thank you 🙂

  14. Hello Gawaxy,
it's interesting to hear that your natural hair color washes you out because if your wear the right colors next to your face, your all characteristics (hair, skin tone, eyes) should be in harmony.
For Soft and Cool Summers, I recommend medium to darker ash brown hair maybe with lighter ash blonde or ash brown highlights. As well as you can try the cooler red shades like medium violet brown, medium mahogany or burgundy.
The Summer colors are in the medium scale of the palettes so try not to use a deep hair color like dark brown or dark mahogany red. These shades would confuse your delicate look.

  15. Really struggling with hair at the moment, my natural shade completely washes me out and I'm ready to change things up. Definitely fall into the Cool/Soft Summer territory – so other than high maintenance blonde, what other shades of hair can we pull off? I'd like to avoid mousy brown, as I'm already one shade lighter, basically dishwater blonde

  16. Yeah, you determined me as a soft autumn. But I get most compliments on colours in this chart; the blues and greens (colder colours?)
And the cold colours contrast with my hair which makes it seem more red, I like that. (which is, next to a few freckles in summer, my only warm feature)

  17. Hello,

thank you for reading my blog 🙂
About your description, you could be a Soft Autumn too. You can also try these colors next to face and ask a friend to help you which suits you better:
Soft Summer: medium gray, mauve, raspberry red or
Soft Autumn: taupe, light orange, redwood red or moss green

I hope these info can help. If you still unsure, send me a couple of photos about your makeup free face to 30somethingurbangirl@gmail.com and I will check which is your possible seasonal palette.

  18. Hi Agnes,
I've been trying to figure out what I am for a while now. I think I may be a soft summer given the colours on the pallet but am not entirely sure.
In winter I very light skin- my veins look greeny-blue so I can't really tell whether I lean towards warm or cool. I tan easily in summer and sometimes get slight freckles. My hair has a relatively ashy tone but naturally golden highlights and my eyes are look grey in some lights and bright blue in others. Medium shades of lipstick from dusty rose to coral tend to suit me best. Do you have any ideas? 🙂

  19. Hi,
after the color analysis Kelley became a Soft Autumn. Her hair and skin tone looked more warm than a Soft Summer woman has.
I suggest to consult with a friend or your significant other wearing colors from the Soft Summer and Soft Autumn palette. For example, medium gray versus camel or soft pink versus light orange or olive green versus verdigris green. They will feel and probably see which colors complement your look better. Sometimes it's hard to look in the mirror and judge ourselves with objective eyes.

  20. I am very curious as to the outcome of Kelley's season. I have been going back and forth between soft summer and soft autumn and they both are equal on me. I have the same coloring of her hair, skin, eyes and veins! Please share your results. Thanks.

    1. Hi,
Agnes determined me a Soft Autumn, but I recently got draped in person. I am actually a Soft Summer. My closest season that I can borrow from is a True summer. So definitely closer to summer than Soft Autumn. My analyst also said I have dark seafoam green eyes with some amber toward the center of my eyes. My skin has rosy undertones with a yellow overtone. My hair is light to medium ash brown. And viens are probably not the best determining factor. I cannot be subjective about mine, but they appear bluish teal. Draping I looked sunburnt in Autumn. To truly know your season it’s best to be draped in person. But Agnes was extremely close. As I am a Soft season and those are usually the most misdiagnosed. I hope you find out what suits you best. Just wanted to update.

  21. Hi Kelley,
about your description you could be one of the Soft seasons but I can imagine another warm palette too. So to be sure, please, send me a couple of photos about your make-up free face to 30somethingurbangirl@gmail.com and I will check which is your possible seasonal palette 🙂

  22. Hi,
I am so confused on which color palette fits me best. I have dirty blonde/light ash brown hair level6-7. Porcelain skin that is extremely fair, but with olive/yellow undertones. I had a makeup artist tell me I'm a very light olive skin complexion. I have hazel eyes, they have a yellow sunburst around the pupil, and a gray green on the rest. My veins look teal to me. More green than blue I think. Which is so confusing. Please help.

  23. Good morning,
I am SO glad I found your post on the color analysis. All stylists wanted to color my hair blonde so it REALLY screwed me up on finding colors that I loved to wear and felt good in. I am a cool, hazel eyed, darker brown hair with fair skin (peach undertones). But my skin throws some red because of rosacea. Is there a makeup palette you suggest? I LOVE all the greys and the deep pinks, but I hope they are ok for the summer -autumn palette. Should I be wearing the golds/grey greens/purples because my eyes? I feel like I am so messed up about it.
    Thank you!
    Jennifer

  24. Hello Sara,
about your description you could be a Soft Summer or a Soft Autumn as well. So to be sure, please, send me a couple of photos about your make-up free face to taggica@gmail.com and I will check which is your possible seasonal palette 🙂

  25. I have naturally dark brown hair, dark brown eyes, light skin with freckles and a pink ish undertone. I'd say I have somewhat of a neutral undertone though, because my hair naturally shines golden and red in the sun and I look almost equally good in warm colors as cool ones. I always thought I was winter but then I took a questionnaire that told me I was a soft summer. I looked at the color palette and thought maybe I am, because a lot of these colors look better on me than the colors from the winter palette. Could you provide any insight on this? Thanks!

  26. I think I've found my palette! White blonde as a kid now it's dark ash blonde. Neutral/bluish skin and grey-blue-green eyes (mostly blue).

I've found I can wear some soft autumn colors c: Such as light soft green.

  27. I am sorry, but the description of celebrities' season type is completely wrong

  28. Hi Michalina,
about your description you could be a Soft Summer or a Soft Autumn as well. So to be sure, please, send me a couple of photos about your make-up free face to taggica@gmail.com and I will check which is your seasonal palette 🙂

  29. Hi Agnes 🙂
I' ve found your blog lately while I was looking for information about seasonal colour analysis.
I am wondering what season I am.
I have brown hair but on summer they're ligther- like ligth brown/ dark blond .They are rather warm than cold. They look like hair of Jennifer Aniston in Leprechaun ( I think about colour).
    My skin is ligth too, yellow but not very clear;
I have dark brown eyes and a little blue eye ball. Eyebrows are dark;- not black; but dark grey; eyelashes too.
Lips are very very pale pink – fairly colourless. I am mix of warm and cool but I think I am warm, however.
I look ugly in dark shading and nude lipsticks.
What do you think what season I am?
Ps. Forgive me for my English.
    Best regards
    Michalina

  30. Hi Aibrean,
thank you very much for your kind words and I'm really happy that you like my blog and work 🙂
I wish you a nice and colorful journey!

  31. After an exhaustive study of personal online color analysis, I have finally found my home at Soft Summer. I was mistakenly draped as a Winter as a young adult and subsequently dressed in all the Winter colors for more than 20 years. My closet was full of black clothes. I've spent the last year trying on different color palettes. It's been a roller-coaster of a ride trying to analyze myself. There are no analysts where I live. You have THE best online color quiz. I love your blog and your Pinterest boards. Please keep providing this information for those of us trying to find our way through a plethora of misinformation out there. I am so happy to find the colors that are ME. Now I need to purge my closet and go shopping!!!!

  32. Hello Charlene,
about your description you could be a Soft Summer seasonal color woman however your best colors can indicate other palette. Black fits well only for Winters and Clear Springs, salmon is typically a Spring color, khaki matches best for Autumns, royal blue can be good for Winters and Summers while fuchsia also complements Winters.
The Soft Summer palette is a little bit tricky (and often misdiagnosed) because you’re dominant coloring is cool but you have some warm characteristics as well.
So please, send me a couple of photos about your make-up free face to taggica@gmail.com and I'll check which seasonal color palette is the best for you 🙂

  33. Hello Giselle,
I've read your interesting comments about the celebrities' seasonal colors below my other posts as well. Would you be so kind to tell me how you examined the ladies and found out these other seasonal color palettes? Or do you use another system?
    Thank you.

  34. Hi thee,
I have dark ash blonde hair, very light skin, grey-blue eyes with a golden Aztec sun around my pupil, am I a soft summer? It seems like the soft summer colours don't do anything for me, I have been told I look good in black, salmon, khaki and fuschia, I think I look good in khaki, salmon and royal blue.
    Super confused, please help me

  35. Hello,
thanks for your interest and comment 🙂
About your description, because of your hair color you could be rather a Soft Autumn than a Soft Summer. Please, send me a couple of photos about your make-up free face to taggica@gmail.com and I'll check which seasonal color palette is the best for you.

  36. I've seen this post and others like it so many times, and I'm still so confused. Sometimes I think I'm "soft summer" and other times I think I'm "soft autumn"–especially after doing the DYT analysis.

My hair in low light is light, mousy brown.
My hair in the sun shines auburn, and in the summer gets highlights of bronze and gold.
My hair as a baby was auburn, too.
My eyes are a muted green-blue.
My skin tone is quite neutral. Not cool, not warm.
I look fine in white gold and light gold, but not brass, and not titanium or marcasite.
When I tan up in the summer I look incredible in pure white.
When I pale down in the winter I look much better in light cream.

    What am I?

  37. Hi Lizbontur,

thank you so much for your detailed comment! I'm sure it will help for many readers :))

I'm so happy that you like my blog! Thanks for reading.

  38. Hi !

I adore your blog !! It's very helpful and well-designed. I was told, after a proper color analysis, that I am a soft summer with a strong cool summer influence 🙂 I tend to agree with this result, cause I don't feel like an obvious type to analyzed. Imagine that in the past, I thought I was a spring or autumn. I wore orange and red color – I looked terrible in them!! I like the colors from my current palette, I've tended to wear them for couple of years after I found out more information about color analysis. They range from my fave pinks with blue undertone, medium blues, purples, periwinkle 🙂 My neutrals are grey, navy, beige, some browns, charcoal, and soft white and I have to admit that i look gorgeous in those colors whereas in black or pure white I feel like washed out. At first, most people think i am warm due to my freckles. However, my freckles don't have warm undertone in them. Secondly, I've got neither obvious cool or warm skin tone. I've got light beige/neutral skin tone which hardly tans to light, dusty brown. Furthermore, my hair are dark blond/ light brown and do not have warm hue in them, mostly greyish tones. Next, my eyes are mixture of grey, blue and some green color – but the overall look gives a cool look. My brows are dark brown.

Some tips for those who don't know how to determine their type. Go for a proper color analysis it's worth spending money on. Furthermore, If you hesitate between warm or cool, you might be soft like me :)))
