You are an Autumn woman who flows into Summer. You also have a ‘mousy’ (mix of warm and cool) coloring like Soft Summers have but with golden skin undertone and reddish highlights in your hair.
You can also have darker hair color but because of you have warmth in your hair, maybe in your eyes as well, the soft and warmer colors suit you better.

According to my new seasonal color system, Your Unique Palette, I divided the Soft seasons to a lighter and a deeper one.

The Fair Soft Autumn

They are lighter in colors with light to medium ash blonde or light ash brown hair, lighter grayish blue or green eyes and paler skin tone. They can be seen as Springs, but the light and vivid colors make them fade.

And the Shaded Soft Autumn

They have a deeper overall complexion like medium to dark ash blonde or light to medium ash brown hair, either lighter eyes or brownish hazel eyes and usually medium skin tone. This kind of Soft Autumn ladies are often misdiagnosed with Deep seasons or Winters, but those bright colors totally overpower them.

Your colors are warm and soft that make an elegant and delicate overall look.

Your hair: golden blonde or brown, light/medium brown with gold or red highlights, warm chestnut, soft auburn and a bit ashy

Your skin: neutral beige, ivory, warm olive, latte

Your eyes: golden blue, grayish green, hazel, light brown

Your colors: warm and soft

  1. If you suspect you are a “soft” season, you’ll really benefit from a professional draping/consultation. I’ve noticed these are the most complex seasons to determine because they can be very chameleon-like, next to different colors. However, there is a significant distinction and weirdly enough, if you get it wrong, these are the seasons where you can look really “off” if you don’t get the cast right.

I noticed while watching the movie “Easy Virtue” (2008) how subtle this discordant look can be, with Jessica Biel in platinum blonde. She’s often listed as a “Soft Summer” but the conflict between her natural coloring and the hair, which needed more warmth but without red, was obvious in this film. The hair looked worn, not part of her. Had it stayed as light but simply looked creamier/warmer, the look would have worked.

I think “Soft Autumn” is the most confusing season to decipher because SAs lean neutral and can wear both cooler and warmer colors, like cooler purples and warmer/olive greens. Soft Autumns are the blonder of the Autumns and as they were often very blonde as children, they can automatically assume they belong in lighter seasons, associating blonde with Spring or Summer. As they often have mousier “dishwater” tones in that blonde, they might assume that mousiness = “Cool” but in fact, like the hazy, grayed-brown tones of late Summer/early Autumn, neutrality can also lean warm.

Drew Barrymore is a good example of this, as she was quite blonde as a child and leans blonde as an adult but looks better in the neutral warm colors because of the warmth of her eyes. If you have hazel eyes that are light but lean more green/chartreuse than blue, this season is a strong one to consider if you can’t quite figure out where you belong.

    1. I agree, I just started using a darker neutral foundation, and it actually works! I thought I was going to have to lighten it, but no. I lucky to have my mom and aunt around, they know exactly what objectively looks good on me color-wise. My aunt is a retired beautician. She was the first to tell me I was an autumn and I had my makeup done professionally once and they stated I had a neutral undertone. I burn very easily, might hold a tint for a brief moment but mostly freckle. I consider Drew Barrymore my color twin. Not to mention we often dye our hair different blonde or red shades.

  2. hi
what do you mean by your style ” Natural AND Classic “? do you mean she should only wear classic clothes ?

  3. I am so confused. I think I have warm skin tones but also have very pink skin depending on what I wear. My eyes are a deep grayish blue but do not seem cold and my hair (which I dye an ash brown) always turns out with a strong red tint. Any suggestions for a mixed up palette?

  4. Hello dear Agnes, I am Joan, from Greece. 🙂 Your articles are very helpfull.
I am trying about 1 year to find out what season I am. I want your opinion! Pleeease!!!
Βy reading your articles, I believe I am soft autumn.
My skin is light to medium or just medium and It looks like the examples of the images you’ve uploaded to the article.
The veins on my wrist are green and blue too.
My hair are just medium brown and mousy or just neutral brown (not sure) and my eyes are light brown with a haze of green and honey brown.
    Can you help me out?

    Thanks you in advance. xxx

  5. The moment you find out your color palette is soft autumn and realize you’ve been wearing waay too much black over the years! Omg! This is life changing and I am excited to re-style my wardrobe according to my palette. Thank you so much for this article and analysis!

  6. I have been so confused for so long about my colors! I'm pretty sure I'm a soft autumn or soft summer. My natural hair color in my youth had red highlights in the sun. My eyes are hazel with green & gold. My veins inside my wrists are green and blue. But my skin is very pink and I can't wear orange or gold well. Help!!

  7. Hi Agnes, can you please help…I have been trying to get to know my season and quite frustrated now. Can I send you my photos?

  8. Hi I just took the quiz and came out strongly autumn and soft autumn. But I am 58 and now have very silver grey salt and pepper hair and my hazel eyes are now more muted grayish hazel. There are no greys on the autumn palette so should I borrow grey colours to go with my hair from soft summer? Thanks

  9. I'm also confused!

A friend's mother was starting up in the colour analysis business closer to two decades ago and signed me up as a test patient– the result was some variation of soft summer. I've worn cool colours for most of my life, partially out of preference, but IDK, something isn't right there.

Let's see… I have extremely pale skin (most drugstore foundations run too dark for me in the winter) with decidedly yellow and olive undertones to the point where it took me twenty years (!) to find a foundation that really matches. I did, and the shade I wear is advertised "for very pale tones with very light yellow undertones"… that's warm, no? Whatever else it may be, this foundation is a miracle after years of wearing pink foundation that was never quite right! Other than that, I tan into a nice bronze shade and tolerate sun much better than you'd expect for someone with skin this pale, although I tend to get a little pink for a few hours after sun exposure. No freckles. Gray-green eyes with yellow flecks. Strawberry blonde hair as child that darkened to a somewhat mousy light brown but turns into a warmer blonde when the sun bleaches it… and since I'm lazy and low maintenance, I let that happen. 🙂 And gold jewelry works better on me, although silver doesn't look awful either.

  10. I'm so confused , I feel my eye color and natural hair color matches Soft Autum, but I just can't be sure . My hair is mousy medium ash brown with copper highlights in the sun . My eyes are a watery green with a grey blue rim ( I've herd that is a summer trait ) I also have some slight rust flecks if light is shines in my eyes . My skin looks somewhat nuetrual my veins in the wrist are neither blue nor green , more of a real , my complexion seems warmer than cooler with a few freckles on my shoulders etc .

I've tried to decide which season I am forever it seems . I've been analyzed a autumn and a soft summer . Lol I think I might just be a soft autumn . Still not sure .

  11. Dear Agnes, I loved your post but it also made me confused since know I don't know if I'm soft summer or autumn aaaah 🙁 could you help a sister out? I've scheduled an appointment at a salon and I'm not sure which shade should I pick. Thank you so much!

  12. I already know I am a soft autumn, but I'm still not sure, despite your advice. I have a bright white and red dress, and I look very, very good in it. Or at least not bad, if I can believe more less everyone around me. If you're right, a soft autumn isn't supposed to look good in a snowwhite and bright red dress, isn't it? Also, there are moments my hair looks very (veeeeery) ginger.

  13. Hi Agnes,

I have been trying to understand my coloring for quite some time. I have hazel green eyes, light brown/dark blonde hair, almost black eyebrows, and neutral light complexion with pink and sometimes yellow undertones. Can you help me based on this info or should I send a pic?

  14. Hi Laura,
    thanks for reading my blog.
Only about description, it's hard to tell which is your seasonal color palette and I don't want to give you false information so please, send me a couple of photos about your make-up free face to taggica@gmail.com and I'll check your colors 🙂

  15. Hi,
I found your site thinking I'm a soft-autumn.. but now i'm not sure, so back to square one (even though you've made it a lot easier to understand)
Naturally I have mousy brown hair which I dye to blonde, with dark brown eyes and warm undertones. What do you think? – Laura

  16. Hi! I love your palettes! 🙂
Someone recently told me that I'm a Soft Autumn, and well I'm ok with it, colors in the SA palette are nice, but I'm not entirely convinced I could be a Soft Autumn. I have rather dark hair and it contrasts with my skin way more than in most Soft Autumn celebrities. Would you be so kind to give me a second opinion? 🙂

  17. Hello! I love your blog!
I have a light skin, blond mousy hair, brown eyewbrows en blue eyes (no brown or green tones). I used to be a light blond, but my hair darkens with age 🙂 and in the sun it lightens up a lot.
In 2014 I had a professional color analysis. For me it really was an eye opener. I always believed myself to be Summer. Turns out i'm an autumn. 🙂
Now i am trying t figure out what kind of autumn. I think i am an Soft Autumn, but how do i know for sure? Can you help me out?

  18. White blonde on top half of hair, dark deep chestnut brown underneath (bottom half), peach/very pink light beige skintone, brown eyes (light but not amber)… help determining my season? Thank you so much. Sorry if I commented twice, but I don't see my previous comment so I'm doubting that it posted.

  19. Hi Xelestial,
most of the time dark colors (like black) make soft or warm seasonal color women looking unhealthy. However these color palettes also have darker colors like chocolate brown, navy or dark green. If someone with these seasonal color palettes loves black or dark colors I suggest her to wear them not close to her face or accessorize them with a colorful scarf.

The most influential books say someone's seasonal color palette is determined by the complexity of hair and eyes color plus the skin tone. With naturally black hair/eyebrows I am not sure you are a Soft Autumn but if you would like send me your photo and I take a look at it.

  20. I'd say whether or not you avoid dark colors depends on your hair tone…I'm pretty sure I'm soft autumn because of my soft brown skin tone but my hair/eyebrows is naturally black so I can pull off black very easily.
